Pets Magazine 6th Anniversary Carnival

March 19, 2012 Leave a comment

Lele together with Pappi and I went to the Pets Magazine 6th Anniversary Carnival at Wave House Sentosa today. We have enrolled her in the fun dog shows, Waggiest Tail and Best Trick events. This is lele’s first time participating in such fun events other than agility. We missed out on last year due to an overslept mummi. Nevertheless, We are determined to not miss out the fun this time.

Lele managed to get through the finals for both categories after the preliminary rounds. She was performing really well giving focus during the best tricks event hence managed to held a 3rd placing. This has made possible with her sudden change of character becoming a extremist food motivated doggie just 2 weeks ago. Anyway, that will be on another blog post.

Well, as for the waggiest tail event, there is a magic word to trigger lele tail wag. She responded exactly as expected and got 1st in the category, all thanks to biggrin “Junior Power”. biggrin ~ Lele and junior first met when she was 5 months and Junior at 14 months old at the beagle club gathering (Video – The biggest beagle-Junior and smallest beagle-lele). As time goes and frequent meet-ups, both click well and will usually go into immediate play mode upon sighting each other. Despite Junior being twice the size of lele, both do get very rough when playing including intense sound effects. LOL. But gentleman junior do tends to give in to her most of the times. Eventually, both became besties pawpals even knowing each other’s name.

Anyway, it was indeed a great day full of fun, laughter, treats for lele, heat and rain at the carnival. It’s really a great experience performing in front of the crowd. Thumbs up to Pets Magazine for the event. Cheers!!! Look forward to next year 7th Anniversary.

January 1, 2012 2 comments

5, 4, 3, 2, 1….. Happy New Year!!!

Lele and family wishes every one a prosperous and smooth year ahead!!!

I just kissed my sound asleep gal and wishes her Happy New Year, Be Happy and Stay Healthy always. :* Muack….

Lele is 19 months old now. In 5 more months she will be 2 bark years old. I suppose I mentioned multiple times on ever since lele became part of our family and adore by every family member, she brings about tons of joy and laughter to the us. Well, year 2012 will be a great year for Lele and myself. She will be learning new things and making new friends. I have line up activities to enjoy with her hence channeling her limitless energy to fun-filled programs.

Lele and Mummi 2012 Resolutions

  1. Compete in official Jumpers and Agility Trials
  2. Compete in Obedience Trials
  3. Participate in Canine Dancing
  4. All above MUST be fun, joyful and positive experience for Lele.

Looking back on year 2011, I like to recollect some of the happiest and proudest moment I had with her. Here goes,

“Huh, no squeaky in the ball…..”

  • Lele was awarded “The Most Active Dog” at the Toa Payoh Paws N’ Friends Carnival, Fun Agility Competition.

This is lele’s third fun agility trial. I really laugh out my tears during this run. She literally shocked me with outburst of energy the moment she jump over the first pole. Spectators were also having a good laugh as she ran the course herself, her way. I was initially hesitant to offleash her at the start line. But decided to go with my gut feeling since it’s quite a complex course if we were to run with the leash on.

Lele was gone the moment she jump over her first pole. She was like a crazy dog who have not been release for ages. My mind immediately went “Oh sh**, how do I get my dog back. It will be hilarious if I were to chase down my dog in front of the spectators.” 😛 Surprisingly, I tried recalling her a couple of times and she responded (for her case). She also followed my commands to run the course throughout other than me being too slow to guide her to the next obstacle. For the estimation of around 2-3mins in the ring, lele was driven with non-stop running coupled with occasional pause sniffing. Luckily at the finish line, she stopped and I managed to leash her up and leave the ring happily. Thank God really, I cannot imagine me having to chase her down which is almost impossible. Nevertheless, I am very proud of her performance. It’s a total different experience from the previous run which she was mostly sniffing the ground and ignoring my commands. I can feel and see she’s getting to understand and being more confident upon entering the ring and knowing what’s happening. Look forward to our official trial in 2012. Here are some photo highlights of the event. 🙂

Happy Lele enjoying her run, her way.

Mummi: “Ahh, no eating mud.”  | Lele: “Hmm, the mud smell nice here…”

Yeppie, finishing jump!!!

Lele got a handshake with the Minister. Guess she is more interested in the bag of treats.

National Dog Walk 2011 (Part 1/2)

Putting aside the unfortunate accident happened at the National Dog Walk 2011, I would like to share the joyful side of the event day along with my family and friends and also extend my thank you to them once again for their support as well as looking out for lele.

21st August at East Coast Park was an extreme hot day. Me and many others fellow agility and SKC members volunteered for the event. Despite the heat, we had fun and the events went smoothly. I was helping out in the agility open championship having a chance to watch the intensity of the trials as well as participating in lele’s first fun agility trial. Overall, the experience is satisfying.

Lele did not perform during the trial which I thought she will. She sort of stressed out minutes before entering the ring and was totally not interested in any treats when we are in it. It is however her first attempt, I believe she may have feel my tension since it is also my first. Well, she manage to do a couple of jumps and walked the dog walk and A-frame. I’m delighted as I believe she did her best. Nothing is more important than seeing her having fun which I look forward to achieve when we are ready for our first official trial.

Check out some of the photos highlight of Lele and her pawpals supporters taken by CS under the scorching heat. He is so into photography especially with dogs nowadays. Adore his enthusiastic and passion. Thanks Pappi!!!

Lele decided it’s more fun sniffing the ground rather than jumping over the tyre. That’s my gal!!!

Sophisticated and gorgeous sister Piper!!!

Always adorable and mischievous boy, Marni.

Today we attended the National Dog Walk 2011 and lele went for her first ever fun agility trial. I was thinking to blog about the joyful day and lele’s experience but something saddens me knowing a beloved furkid has passed away in this yearly event. I do not want to go on to what had happen but share my personal opinions and precautions when bringing your dogs to such events with unfamiliar dogs around or even dog runs.

1) When introducing new dogs to your own, always keep a lookout for stressful signs if your dog or the other is uncomfortable. Eg. teeth growling, tail tuck, pulling away. Always believe in your first instinct and move your dogs away if you feel something amissed. Never let your dog continue interaction when seen distress.

2) Never assume all dogs are friendly like yours. When in dog runs, always follow, supervise your dog and keep watchful eyes. DO NOT sit down on the beach and chat while your dog roam around. (Seen this most of the time in dog runs.) In public places, always keep your dog leashed. You never know what and when something can just spooked your dog.

3) Dog runs is NOT exactly the best place to socialise your puppy. A very useful article on why is it so – To Park or Not to Park : StubbyDog Quoted from the article :

Keep in mind that dog parks are not a necessity, and your dog is not missing out if she doesn’t attend them. Leisurely walks or jogs with you provide the best exercise, and small play groups give her a wonderful opportunity to play with other dogs!

This heartbreaking incident have actually make me quite paranoid towards lele well-being. I am starting to question myself whether to bring lele to dog runs as we used to and even reconsidering about bringing her to future dog hash. I guess I need a cool down period away from the dog runs…..

ComChest Heartstrings Walk 2011

CS, lele and me went for the ComChest Heartstrings Walk 2011, charity event by community chest. It was a 4km fun walk along the waterfront trails of Marina Bay. It had been a long time since we woke up so early at 6am for a Sunday. Lele was a sleepy head that she slept in the car on the way to the venue. When we arrived there, the crowd has started to settle in. There are said to be about 5000 walkers as per the announcement by the MC of the event. Well, it do get “human jam” when we are walking at the narrow path along the Esplanade Bridge.

The flag off is around 8.15am. The three of us with lele leading the pace, have us crossed the finish line around 9.15am. This 1 hour consists with all the pit stop for lele’s water refueling, photo taking and petting sessions. LOL… Lele sure get her amount of attractions with the requests for photo taking and petting. We met quite a few furkids joining the fun walk along with their pawrents, there were 1 beagle buddy – Happy, 1 Labrador – Daisy, 1 Shih Tzu, 2 Westie, 2 Maltese and 1 Jack Russell who growled at lele (Oops). It was another wonderful workout for us with nicely weather for our lele girl. “So when is our next walk???”

Best Friend Run 2011 (Part 2/2)

May 9, 2011 3 comments

Our 2km fun individual run is scheduled at 09.05am for flag off. Me and CS woke up late this morning at around 8am. Lele watched in amuse as we were running around the house hastily to get ready for the run event. Lele seems to know something exciting is happening this morning.

When we reached the event ground at east coast park, Lele felt so energized that her body was shivering with excitment. She was whining and howling at the top of her throat once we got out of the car. This is the first time I have actually saw her being so enthusiastic. The turnout for the event is not that crowded as I thought it will be. (Around 50+ person with dogs.) I guess there are a lot of runners like us who have glued to their television at wee hours for the election results hence overslept. But it is a great sight to see many owners brought their furkids to enjoy their sunny sunday morning together, just like us.
